Helen Safford Residency: 1972 Helen is married to Wally Safford. She is the mother of Rhonda Danyus and Anthony Rossi. She owns/operates Helen's Sandbox day care center. Top or Menu Wally Safford  Residency: Unknown Wally worked for Holly Trucking for many years. He is currently retired. Top or Menu Erik Santefort Residency: Mid-1980's Eric is a son of James Santefort. He is currently employed with Vilas County Sheriff's Department. Top or Menu James Santefort Residency: Mid 1980's Jim is involved with real estate and operates his own construction business. Top or Menu Margaret Santefort Residency: Unknown Known in our area as "Maggie," she is married to Erik Santefort and works at Thunderbird Pass (Polzin's). Top or Menu Glen Sauer Residency: Mid 1980's Glenn was well-known and well-liked in the area. He moved here after retiring and lived on Found Lake for many years. Date deceased: Unknown Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Christine Schiffman Residency: Born here  Christine is a daughter of Gerhardt and Rosalie Schiffman. She is married (last name unknown) and resides out of the area. Top or Menu Fred Schiffman Residency: 1946 Fred purchased and operated Whispering Pines Resort on Pickerel Lake (Hwy J) with his son, Ray, in 1946. Date deceased: Unknown Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Gerhardt Schiffman Residency: 1946 Gerhardt (Gary) is a son of Ray Schiffman and the father of Christine and Glen. Gary was 4 years old when his father moved here. He took over management of the family resort, Whispering Pines, from 1975 - 2000. Top or Menu Glen Schiffman Residency: Born here Glen is the son of Gerhardt and Rosalie Schiffman. He owns and operates Custom Components and is a major building contractor in the area. Top or Menu Malcolm Schiffman Residency: Born here Malcom is a son of Ray Schiffman and a brother to Gerhardt. He helped with the maintenance of Whispering Pines Resort and is currently employed by Oneida County. Top or Menu Ray Schiffman Residency: 1946 Ray and his father, Fred Schiffman, purchased and operated Whispering Pines Resort on Pickerel Lake (Hwy J) in 1946. He is the father of Gerhardt (Gary) and Malcolm Schiffman. Date deceased: Unknown Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Roselie Schiffman Residency: Unknown Roselie is married to Gerhardt (Gary) Schiffman and is the mother of Christine and Glenn Schiffman. She took part in the management and operations of Whispering Pines Resort. She also worked in an Eagle River accounting office for many years. Top or Menu Eric Schmidt Residency: Unknown Eric has been in the construction business with his father for many years. He is married to Sarah (Best) Schmidt. Top or Menu Gary Schmidt Residency: Uknown Gary was a member of the Vilas County Sheriff's Department for many years. He also took over management of his father's resort on Lost Lake. Top or Menu Sarah Schmidt Residency: Born here Sarah is a daughter of Boyd and Judy Best. She worked in law enforcement in Shawano county for many years. She then moved back to St. Germain and married Eric Schmidt. Top or Menu Glenn Schmolze Residency: Early 1970's Glenn came from Sheboygan, WI and purchased the supper club at Leisure Lodge (Weise Reort)). A few years after this, he was badly injured in a snowmobile accident which permanently confined him to a wheelchair. He was well-known for playing the accordion and had music in his bar most weekends. He sold the supper club (unknown person), which later burned down. Top or Menu Gina Schmolze Residency: Early 1970's Gina was employed with Fabulous Sam's for many years and she is now wrking in the home Health area. Top or Menu Dennis Schoppe Residency: Born in Sayner, WI Dennis lived in Sayner, WI many years before moving to St. Germain in 1974. He was employed at Plum Lake Golf Course for many years. Top or Menu Patti Schoppe Patti is a daughter of John Moriarity and married to Dennis Schoppe. She is currently employed with CESA. Top or Menu Norman Schuettner, Jr. Residency: 1971
 Norm operated Thunderbird Pass (Polzin's) after his father retired. He also served as town constable for several years. The T-bird was eventually sold to Richard Dolezak. Norm also guided for many years and was well-known as the "Flowage Flash." He is currently employed with Waldmann Construction. Top or Menu Norman Schuettner, Sr. Residency: 1971 Norm purchased Thunderbird Pass (Polzin's) from Don Schulpius. His son (Norm, Jr.) operated it after he retired and it was sold in 1981. The tavern also had gasoline pumps and a live bait and tackle shop. It was open (including the bar) at 7:00 AM every morning. 
 Date deceased: August 4, 1993 Cause of death: Heart attack Interment: St. Germain Cemetery Top or Menu Steven Schuettner Steve is a son of Norman, Jr. and Valerie Schuettner. He worked for Lindgren R.F. Enterprises south of Minoqua for several years and now operates a sub-contracting business in Houston, Texas. Top or Menu Valerie Schuettner Residency: 1971  Valerie is married to Norman Schuettner, Jr. and the mother of Jill Janke and Steven Schuettner. She worked for Waldmann Construction for many years and was the St. Germain Town Treasurer about thirty years. Most of those years as town treasurer was without pay or compensation. Sure enough, as soon as the town board voted a small salary for the position, some area newbie ran against her, but lost. Top or Menu Gregory Seegert Residency: Born here Greg is a son of Wally Seegert. He is currently employed with Waldmann Construction and has been for many years. Top or Menu Wally Seegert Residency: Late 1940's Wally lived just this side of Sayner for decades and was very well known in the area. He worked for Gene Ahlborn in the Stihl distributorship for many years. After he retired, he operated a portable popcorn wagon at most town events.  Top or Menu Harold Selke Residency: Early 1980's Harold moved here after he retired. He was well-known and well-liked in the area. Little else is known about Harold and we would appreciate more information. Date deceased: 1988 Cause of Death: Heart attack Interment: St. Germain Cemetery  Top or Menu Clarence Shannon Residency: Unknown Clarence was a son-in-law of Michael Froelich and purchased Lost Lake Resort from him. He eventually sold this resort to Ed Gabe who changed the name to Ed Gabe's Lost Lake Resort. Shannon Lake is named after Clarence. Date deceased: Unknown Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Daniel Shay Residency: Early 1950's Dan is the father of John Shay, but very little else is known about him. If anyone has information on him, we would appreciate hearing from you. Date deceased: 1989 Cause of death: Unknown Interment: St. Germain Cemetery  Top or Menu John Shay Residency: Early 1950's John is a son of Daniel Shay. He works for the Town of St. Germain and has done so for many years. Top or Menu Residency: 1957 "Art” was born July 26, 1923, in Independence, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II. In 1945, he moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune as a rural route supervisor. In 1957 he moved to St. Germain and purchased the Anderson estate on the northwest shore of Big St. Germain Lake and built Lofty Pines Resort and later an RV Campground. Art was involved in the early development of our snowmobile trails during the 1960's. He served as president of Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club, director of District 5 for the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs (AWSC) and was appointed trails coordinator. He was AWSC executive secretary and lobbyist from 1979 to 1986 and developed the Trail Patrol System in Wisconsin and lobbied to have gas tax funds support trails. He received the AWSC Presidents Award, was voted Snowmobiler of the Year for 1982-’83 and represented Ski-Doo as Ambassador of Snowmobiling for three years. When he retired, the resort and campground were separately operated by each of his two sons, Brian and Jim. Date deceased: March 3, 2008 Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Brian Sherren Residency: Born here Brian is a son of Art Sherren,a brother to James Sherren, and operates Lofty Pines RV Campground on Big St. Germain Lake. He is a past chairman of the Town Board. Top or Menu James Sherren Residency: Born here Jim is a son of Art Sherren and currently operates Lofty Pines Resort on Big St. Germain Lake. Top or Menu Margo Sherren Residency: Unknown Margo is married to Brian Sherren and is involved with the operations of Lofty Pines RV Campground Top or Menu John Sisson Residency: 1902 John Sisson has a Memorial Page John purchased 3-acres of land on Little St. Germain, about where the Little Saint Express (St. Germain Corner Store) stands. He built and operated the first Sisson's Resort here. He continued to expand this resort and, when he sold it to E. Perrault in 1922, it compromised 10 cottages and over 70 acres of land. That fall (1922) he built and operated a new resort next to the one he sold, which he also named Sisson's Resort. He also served as town clerk and constable. Date deceased: Unknown Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Robert Smith Residency: Mid-1940's Robert was known as "Snuffy" and was a WW II pilot with the Flying Tigers. He married Mary Froelich, one of Ed Froelich's daughters. He eventually took over management of Ed Gabe's Lost Lake Resort (Lost Lake Resort)from his brother-in-law, Edward Gabe. He operated Ed Gabe's for many years. Date deceased: Unknown Cause of death: Unknown Interment: Unknown Top or Menu Karen Stecker Residency: Born here Karen is a daughter of Leonard Weber and married to Larry Stecker. She is involved with the operations of Weber's Wildlife and Tavern. Top or Menu Larry Stecker Residency: Unknown Larry is married to Karen Stecker and has operated his own area construction business for many years. Top or Menu Anna Steel Residency: 1929 Anna was married to Russell Steel, Sr. and is the mother of Russell Steel, Jr. Little else is known of Anna. There is some indication that she may have been born in the area of Brule, WI. 
 Date deceased: 1985 Cause of death: Unknown Interment: St. Germain Cemetery Top or Menu Russell Steel, Jr. Residency: Born here Russell is a son of Russell, Sr. and Anna Steel. He lives in his father's house by the Big St. Germain River. He worked as a taxidermist in the Chicago Museum of Science for many years before returning here. He continued his taxidermy work and a large number of his mounts are displayed in the Vilas Historical Museum in Sayner, WI. Russell is very conservation minded. He offered to donate his 80-acres of wooded river front land to our town after his death if they would make it into a nature preserve. The town turned him down, which was no surprise. After all, we wouldn't want to deprive some developer from buying it, chopping it into postage stamp size lots (PSLing), and selling it to people from Illinois at exorbitant prices. Top or Menu Russell Steel, Sr. Residency: 1929 Russell arrived in our St. Germain area from the Brule River area in 1929 and built his house on the end of Burnt Bridge Road by the Big St. Germain River. He often said that at that time fires had swept across most of the area and he could see for miles around. Date deceased: 1989 Cause of death: Heart problems Interment: St. Germain Cemetery 
 Top or Menu Glenn Steiner Residency: Late 1970's Glenn moved to St. Germain after retirement from a school supplies company. He then operated an office supply store in Eagle River for several years. Top or Menu Ervin Stiemke Residency: 1973 Ervin purchased and operated Stiemke's Resort on South Bay of Little St. Germain for many years. He also owned and operated an accounting company in Eagle River. He and his wife, Sandra, currently reside in Florida. Top or Menu Jarrod Stiemke Residency: 1973 Jarrod is a son of Ervin and Sandra Stiemke. He owns and operates Eagle River Cabinets in Eagle River, WI. Top or Menu Sandra Stiemke Residency: 1973 Known as Sandy, she is married to Ervin Stiemke and was involved with the operation and management of Stiemke's Resort. She was the secretary in the Red Brick School for several years in the mid-1970's. Top or Menu |
